Fertility
Dramatically improve your chances of becoming pregnant… naturally
At Integrative Health Services, Meredith Young, a charter member of The Fertile Soul™ Clinical Excellence in Fertility Program, is uniquely qualified to help you achieve your dreams.
As TCM fertility specialists, we will provide you with an individual treatment strategy, especially targeting your particular issues and your goals. Using the diagnostic tools of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) of pulse and tongue and history taking, we will provide you with acupuncture treatments according to the results and our observations, also taking into account where you are in your menstrual cycle.
While every case is different, the general rule of thumb for both Western and Chinese medicine is three to six months of treatment prior to natural or assisted conception. A three-month minimum is the time it takes to balance and regulate the reproductive system so that healthy eggs are produced. Acupuncture treatments are typically performed weekly and Chinese herbal formulas are added to further balance the body.
A holistic approach to fertility
TCM and acupuncture take a holistic approach to fertility, an approach that involves body, mind, and spirit. In addition to treating you with acupuncture and Chinese herbs, we will make dietary recommendations and suggest supplements as necessary. We might also recommend various types of exercise and specific techniques to reduce stress and gain emotional support. We want and need your full self to be involved in becoming a parent.
Studies show that fertility improves with acupuncture
and Traditional Chinese Medicine
A landmark study published in the medical journal Fertility and Sterility (April 2002) found that acupuncture dramatically the chances of becoming pregnant when used in conjunction with other assisted reproductive techniques. Researchers from Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York reviewed studies and concluded that acupuncture helps:
- increase blood flow to the uterus, improving chances of an ovum implanting on the uterine wall
- reduce anxiety and stress hormones known to significantly decrease fertility
- balance hormone and endocrine systems that regulate ovulation, especially in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
- normalize the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis (HPO), which plays a key role in fertility/li>
- regulate the menstrual cycle
In addition to being a Milwaukee-area charter member of The Fertile Soul’s Clinical Excellence in Fertility Program, Dr. Young has received, and continues to receive, ongoing training with some of the most successful TCM practitioners in the United States, including Dr. Randine Lewis, author of The Infertility Cure and The Way of the Fertile Soul.
